Sources of Strength

We are proud to introduce “Sources of Strength,” an international suicide prevention program funded by a grant from the Idaho Lives Project.   Eleven MTCHS and nine MMACHS students have teamed up with advisors Mary Helen Green and Melissa Bishop on a mission to spread hope, help, and strength into every corner of our community.   Their goal is to encourage students to focus on hope, help, and strength when they are dealing with difficult times, depression, and trauma.

SOS Peer Leaders put together a short video to introduce the program and its goals to both schools.

This week’s project was the Thankfulness Challenge.  Every student and staff member was given a leaf and told to write something they were thankful for.  These leaves were put up in a colorful cornucopia display on the wall in Haley Hall for all to see.

You can find more information about the Sources of Strength program at https://sourcesofstrength.org/

Thanksgiving Break

MTCHS will be closed for Thanksgiving Break on November 19 – 23.  We would like to wish all of our families safe travelling, great food, and a holiday filled with joy, love, and thankfulness.

Veterans Day Assembly

MTCHS would like to thank all of our honored guests for your presence at this morning’s Veterans Day Assembly!  Our veterans are so important to us, and cannot be thanked enough for their service to us and to our country.

Special thanks to guest speaker and Army veteran Chief Patrick Calley of the Eagle Police Department, Ada County Sheriff’s Office.   Chief Calley spoke of the gift of freedom represented in our American flag and passed on from generation to generation.

Happy Veterans Day to one and all.  We are grateful for your service.

Veterans Day Assembly

MTCHS will hold our annual Veterans Day Assembly at the school on Friday November 9th  from 8:00 am to 9:00 am. We will be honoring veterans and active duty members of the Armed Services. Student Government is inviting any parents or family members from our community who are veterans or active duty to join us.

Students have been emailed a link to a form from Student Government to fill out with their guest’s name.  Please get this done by Wednesday, November 7th.

Please remember that we are all showing our honor and respect for our service men and women with Professional Dress Day.

Last year MTCHS was treated with a helicopter display, this will not happen this year, as that crew has been deployed to Afghanistan.  Student Government would like to show our appreciation to the crew by sending them a care package.  We are in contact with the families and will provide their favorite treats, but shipping overseas is very expensive.  If you would like to donate a dollar or two for shipping you can drop it off at the front office or donate at the online store by selecting “Pay or donate to MTCHS” and apply payment to “Student Government” by Monday November 12.

Food Drive Results

MTCHS Junior’s Motto: WE WILL NOT BE DEFEATED!

The Junior class pooled their funds, went door-to-door, and emptied out their pantries in an attempt to beat the Freshmen’s astounding pile of food collected.  And in the end, they ROCKED the competition and brought in 3,916 items, for a grand total of 5,789 items collected for a worthy cause!  Because this is more than the Women’s and Children’s Alliance currently has room for, Student Government will be finding an equally worthy recipient of the students’ generosity.

In the end, EVERYONE wins!  Awesome job, Dragons!

Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences

It’s conference time!

MTCHS is hosting Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 22 and 23 from 4:30 to 8:30 pm.  No appointments are necessary, just come in and meet and greet.  This is a great time for getting to know your student’s teachers, ask questions, address problems, formulate plans, or just say “hello!”  Please note that students are included and are strongly encouraged to attend along with their parents.

Business Field Trips, Pro Dress

On Wednesday, October 17, all students will be participating in a field trip to either Boise Startup Week at JUMP or Made Here! at the 2018 Idaho Manufacturing Expo, Idaho Center.  All students will be at Boise Startup Week at the JUMP Center for lunch sponsored by Blue Cross of Idaho, and will spend the remaining afternoon at JUMP.  Students will return in time for normal dismissal at 2:15 pm.

Professional dress is required.  Students are encouraged to wear a button-down or polo shirt with the MTCHS logo if they own one, as we know they will all be wonderful ambassadors for our school!
