The National Honor Society is a National Organization that students can seek to be a part of their sophomore year. Students must complete at least one year of high school before seeking membership. The four pillars of the National Honor Society are Character, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service. MTCHS’s chapter activities are service for the most part. Some of the activities that we sponsor are “Rake Up Boise” in November, Adopt-a-Highway in October and April, Graduation in May, and fundraising activities for various organizations such as, Make-a-Wish, The Idaho Humane Society, The Meridian Food Bank, and other global concerns such as the Caps for Kids.
The process to seek membership is as follows: Mrs. Green, the advisor looks at all of the cumulative GPA’s for the sophomores, juniors and seniors. Any students that meet the GPA requirement of 3.5 or above will be sent an email with an “Activity Form” attached. There will be a deadline date to get the form back to Mrs. Green. All of the forms will be scanned and shared with the NHS faculty council to review. They will use a rubric to determine if students meet the Leadership and Service criteria. The faculty council lead will let Mrs. Green know who meets the criteria and she will inform students of the outcome. She will then invite those students to attend an NHS Induction Ceremony usually scheduled for the end of September or early October. The National Honor Society meets on Thursdays during lunch.
