Dutch Bros Pros!

Mrs. Grainger’s Business 3 class wishes to say “Thank you” to Dutch Bros Meridian for a fun and informative onsite visit this morning.   Jeff Yarnall and his team provided an insider view of what it is like to run a successful business and ensure amazing customer service.  They also shared some amazing beverages and sent the class away with a nice, unexpected gift package!

And the Socktober winners are…

Seniors have proven that they will not go down without a fight… in fact they refuse to go down at all!  The class of 2020 is known for never losing a grade level competition, and when they heard that the Sophomores had a late surge in sock donations yesterday afternoon, they couldn’t allow it to stand.  With ten minutes to spare before the school closed for the day, the Seniors pooled together for one last donation of 102 pairs of socks! This brings their total amount of socks donated to 459!  Well done, Seniors!

Did you ever work this hard for an extra 10 minutes of lunchtime? ;)

This has been an amazing Socktober, and we broke records with an astonishing 1,029 pairs of socks donated!  That’s A LOT OF SOCKS!  Beyond the friendly competition, Socktober is all about helping others, and we appreciate all of those students who pitched in to make this happen!

Great job, Dragons!

Idaho Hispanic Youth Leadership Summit

On Wednesday, October 23, two MTCHS students attended the Idaho Hispanic Youth Leadership Summit with Counselor Mary Helen Green at Boise State University.  Gio and Evie had the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops on subjects like leadership, STEM, and college preparation, listen to a fascinating keynote speaker, and apply for BSU Scholarships.  The Summit is organized by the Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs, and encourages Idaho’s Hispanic youth to take on leadership positions in our communities.

SOCKTOBER

Things are winding up for this year’s Socktober event! Each grade level has brought in a respectable amount of socks, with rumours of big donations coming tomorrow! There’s still time to tilt the scales and make one class the big winner of ten extra minutes of lunch! It’s all about class pride, now…. let’s see how many socks we can collect for this worthy cause!
Socktober is a movement that was started in 2011 when founder Brad Montague discovered that socks are the items least donated to homeless shelters. MTCHS has done its part for three of the last four years, collecting 154 pairs of socks in 2015, 381 in 2016, and a whopping 987 pairs in 2017!!!
We’re all eager to see what our totals will be at the end of the day tomorrow!

VEX Robotics

The MTCHS VEX Robotics club participated at the Wood River Annual Halloween Spook VRC competition.  The team did well, winning four of the six qualifying matches, placing 12th out of 36.  Unfortunately, they lost in the first round of the tournament by only a few points.  It was a great experience for our young team, and they are looking forward to the next event!

NHS Costume/Hat Day

The MTCHS Chapter of the National Honor Society will be holding a Costume/Hat Day on Thursday, October 31st.  Tickets to participate will be on sale before school this week, with all proceeds going to support the Idaho Humane Society.  Tickets will be $5.00 for a full costume, and $2.00 for a hat.  No hats or costumes will be allowed to cover the face.  Any additional donations to help our furry friends at the shelter are welcome!

Food Bank Opportunities

MTCHS students who would like to earn some community service hours or STOR Points, consider joining us at the Meridian Food Bank on October 31st from 3 pm to 4 pm. We will be helping the Backpack program fill bags of food for students K-12 who need food over the weekend.
